Omar Hakim
Aggie Core Values Faculty Fellow Department of Sociology
Omar Hakim wants to live in a world where people act with integrity when it matters most, and where ideas are carried responsibly from intention to action. He is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Sociology and has taught at Texas A&M University for eight years, offering cross-listed courses in the College of Arts and Sciences and Mays Business School focused on technology commercialization and entrepreneurship. Omar is a licensed Professional Engineer and has been the inventor on 34 granted U.S. patents, spanning materials science, semiconductor advanced packaging, anti-counterfeiting technologies, and machine learning systems. He also works closely with startup founders and student entrepreneurs, helping translate technical innovation into real-world impact. When Omar is not teaching, you can find him practicing obscure Southeast Asian martial arts or pursuing magic as a hobbyist magician, frequently to the mild annoyance of his kids. Both serve as reminders that real mastery is built through discipline, humility, and the occasional willingness to make a fool of oneself in the pursuit of learning.Learn more at https://www.linkedin.com/in/omarbhakim.
