Recruiting Events

Throughout the year, the Honors Programs office sponsors several recruiting events for high-achieving high school students. The events are an opportunity for students and parents alike to learn more about the opportunities offered by Texas A&M University and its Honors Programs.


Summer Honors Invitational Program

The Summer Honors Invitational Program (SHIP) is to recruit motivated and successful students to join Texas A&M University’s community of learners. SHIP is a preview of the academic and student life experience at Texas A&M University. The invitational is designed to help students gain knowledge about higher education, give students the opportunity to see the university at work, and to provide students the experience of living on a college campus. SHIP will showcase the academic opportunities, traditions, and strong commitment to diversity valued by Texas A&M University and its Honors Programs.


Lechner-McFadden Overnight Express

Throughout the year, the Honors Progams office invites National Merit and National Achievement Semifinalists to get a first-hand look at academic and leadership development opportunities at Texas A&M.  Students will stay overnight with current Honors students in the McFadden|Lechner Halls and take part in a number of master lectures, class visits, informational panels, tours, and sporting events.

National Scholar Days

National Scholar Day programs are for National Merit and National Achievement Semi-finalists, and National Hispanic Scholars. Students and parents will receive information about our scholarship opportunities, and will meet individually with college/departmental staff about their major areas of interest. Also, attendees can expect to participate in a student panel of current scholarship recipients detailing their experiences about choosing a college, and college life in general.
