How to Apply
Applying for Honors Programs scholarships is a simple two-step process.
Step 1: Complete Online Application
The application for all freshman scholarships is included as part of the ApplyTexas Application.
The application will be available beginning August 1, 2009.
The deadline to apply for freshman merit scholarships is December 1, 2009.
Step 2: Submit Supplementary Materials
The following supplementary materials must be received by December 1, 2009 (NB: this is a receipt deadline, not postmark deadline):
-
Essays. You are required to complete both Essays A and B. Essays should be typed or computer generated and should not exceed the space allotted. ONLY the first submission of essays will be considered. Re-submissions will not be read. Applicants for the Terry scholarship must complete THREE essays: Topics A and B (required for admissions) and a third Personal Statement.
-
Transcripts. An official high school transcript indicating grades from the freshman through junior years and class rank at least through the junior year is required and must accompany the scholarship application. (An official high school transcript is one that contains an embossed high school seal or the original signature of a high school counselor, registrar, or principal.)Transcripts should be sent to the Office of Admissions and Records. Neither Texas A&M University nor Honors Programs recognizes the word “OFFICIAL” stamped on the transcript as constituting an official high school transcript. Faxed copies of transcripts are not official and will not be accepted. Class rank should include rank and number in class. Admissions does not accept class rank as a percentile ranking only. (Acceptable format: 50/565. Unacceptable format: top 10%). Send all official transcripts in a sealed envelope from all high schools, colleges, and universities attended.
-
SAT I or ACT Score. An SAT I or ACT score including writing component score is required. Test scores must be reported prior to December 1, 2009 for scholarship consideration. Texas A&M University considers the student’s highest, one-day test score regardless of how many times the test has been taken. The University does not combine the highest separate math, critical reading/verbal, and writing scores from different test dates. When registering to take these tests, you should direct the testing agency to send the scores to Texas A&M University. The TAMU SAT code is 6003; the TAMU ACT code is 4198. Scores from an official high school transcript may be considered if they are copied from the official strip-label from the testing agency. These scores will not be accepted if they are computer generated or manually typed.
-
Student Profile Form. Give the Student
Profile Form to your school counselor or principal for completion. Your counselor/principal should provide all requested information. Comments like “PLEASE SEE TRANSCRIPT” may put you at a disadvantage. Additional information about the high school and/or school district including types of courses offered, profile of student body, etc., is helpful in the evaluation process.
-
Letters of Recommendation. Letters of recommendation will not be considered for academic scholarship selection unless specifically requested by the Brown or Terry Foundation. Applicants for the Brown and Terry Foundation Scholarships will be contacted if they are finalists and letters of recommendation may be submitted at that time.
-
Résumés. Please do not send résumés. They will not be considered for academic scholarship selection. We have asked for applicants to list their top ten activities in PRIOIRTY ORDER on the application. Priority should be given to those activities/awards that applicants have been involved in over four years of high school or those in which applicants have had significant leadership positions.

School Transcripts, and Student Profile Form should be sent to the following
