Freshman Scholarships

Explore your world through the scholarships at Texas A&M University's Honors Programs

Texas A&M University’s four-year, competitive academic scholarships are awarded by Honors Programs.  While competition requirements vary, only one application is necessary to be considered for all the scholarships listed below.  Students using this application will be notified of award decisions by letter, to be mailed March 2010.  National Merit® Semifinalists who expect to progress to Finalist may be notified earlier.  College or department-sponsored scholarships will be announced by the awarding unit in mid-April.

Academic Scholarships

Approximately 300 four-year President’s Endowed Scholarships and 150 four-year Lechner or McFadden Scholarships, (each valued at a total of  $12,000 and $10,000 respectively) are awarded annually to incoming freshmen.  Out-of-state recipients earn a non-resident tuition waiver for the duration of their scholarships. Scholarships are merit-based and are awarded without regard to financial need.

College/Department Level Scholarships

More than 200 scholarships are awarded by individual academic colleges and departments to students interested in specific subject areas. Selection criteria are established by the awarding unit and the amounts of the scholarships vary.  Out-of-state recipients may also earn non-resident tuition waivers for the duration of scholarships that are valued at $1,000 or more annually.  To claim a college/departmental-sponsored scholarship, the student must be admitted to and enroll in the corresponding college and/or department.  The credentials of all students officially admitted to awarding colleges or departments will be forwarded to and evaluated by the appropriate unit’s scholarship committee.  Major will be verified using information presented on the admissions application.

Craig and Galen Brown Foundation Scholarships

Approximately ten nominees from a pool of Texas residents who receive President’s Endowed Scholarships may earn privately awarded stipends in addition to the President’s Endowed Scholarship, which in some cases covers the full cost of tuition, fees, room and board.  Scholarship decisions are made by the Brown Foundation.
