Honors Incentive Award
Continuing Texas A&M students who did not receive a four-year Honors Programs scholarship and who and are actively pursuing university-wide honors distinctions are invited to apply for the Honors Incentive Award.
Award
The Honors Incentive Award (HIA) is tenable for one academic year and provides a $1,000 scholarship stipend. Students may apply every year. Non-resident students who receive the HIA are eligible for a non-resident tuition waiver.
Eligibility
Students who wish to apply for the Honors Incentive Award must meet the following criteria:
-
A minimum 3.5 cumulative GPR
-
Not have received a four-year scholarship coordinated by Honors Programs
-
A requisite number of Honors credit hours; freshman applicants must have completed (or be in the progress of) three credit hours, sophomores six, juniors nine, and seniors twelve.
-
Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Application and Selection
Eligible students may apply for the HIA and other scholarships for continuing student by completing the Continuing Student scholarship application available on the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid's website.
The Continuing Student application typically opens in mid-October, with a deadline of February 1. The HIA is a competitive award, and not all students who meet the eligibility criteria are guaranteed an award. When selecting recipients, the HIA committee will take into account the rigor of the curriculum as well as the grades received and the student's participation in extracurricular activities. Also important is the student's sustained participation in the Honors Programs and progress towards graduating with an Honors Distinction.
Terms and Conditions
Students who receive the Honors Incentive Award must comply with the following terms and conditions:
-
Recipients must reapply to be considered for subsequent funding
-
Recipients must enroll in at least 12 credit hours in each of the two semesters for which the award is tenable
-
Recipients are expected to progress towards graduation with an Honors Distinction; HIA recipients should meet with an Honors Advisor to discuss curriculum options
