Staff
Director: Dr. Anne
Blum
Dr. Blum has served as the Director of the Office of Professional
and Graduate School Advising since 1994. She received her Bachelor
of Science (1982), Master of Science (1984), and Doctorate (1994)
from Texas A&M University.
Pre-Law Program Coordinator: Karen
Severn
Mrs. Severn has served as the Pre-Law Coordinator of the Office of
Professional and Graduate School Advising since 1992. She received
her Bachelor of Science (1986) and Master of Public Administration
(1990) from Texas A&M University. She is currently working on her
Ph.D. at Texas A&M and is the advisor for the Pre-Law Society.
Health Professions Program Coordinator: Karen
Hudson
Mrs. Hudson received her Bachelor of Science (1995) and Master of
Science (1997) from Texas A&M University. She is also an advisor to
the Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Societies.
Graduate & Veterinary Program Coordinator: Dr.
Steve R. Simcik
Dr. Simcik received his Bachelor of Science (1988) and Master of Science
(1990) from Sam Houston State and Doctorate (2000) from Texas A&M
University. He is also the advisor for the Organization of Undergraduate
Researchers.
Allied Health Coordinator: Kate
Karstadt
Mrs. Karstadt received her Bachelor of Arts (1992) in History from
Texas A&M University. She is also the advisor to Future Aggie Physician
Assistants, Future Aggie Nurses, and the PT Society.
Admissions Service Coordinator: Dionne
Thomas
Mrs. Thomas has served as the admissions coordinator since 2002. She
oversees the files that are kept for students applying to professional
school.
Office Supervisor: Shelia Amos
Mrs. Amos has served as office supervisor since 1995. She is coordinator
for the two professional organizations that are affiliated with our
office: The Texas A&M Medical & Dental Society and the Aggie
Bar Association. Mrs. Amos is the supervisor of the Student Workers
and Peer Advisors.
Prospective Student Advisor & Office Associate: Kynsie Benefield
Miss Benefield received
her Bachelor of Science (2004) in Biology from Texas A&M University.
She meets with prospective high school and transfer students who are
interested in attending Texas A&M and then later applying to professional
school.
Volunteer Opportunities
In addition to the full-time staff, our office also employs student
workers and volunteer peer advisors. Peer advisors, generally pre-professional
students, assist in advising fellow students. We are always interested
in new peer advisor volunteers. If you would like to find out more

Advising
One of the most important
services is the personal attention its advisors offer to students.
Individual consultation is available daily in all majors and all levels
of study, from freshmen to graduate students. In addition, the Aggieland
Visitor Center schedules visits to the Office of Professional and
Graduate School Advising in order to introduce campus visitors and
new students to the office and to pre-professional studies at A&M.

Workshops
In order to obtain a competitive
advantage for admissions to professional school, students enrolled
at Texas A&M University need to become familiar with Office of Professional
and Graduate School Advising and the important part it will play in
the application process. The OPGSA schedules workshops throughout

Newsletters
The Professional
newsletter is distributed by our office. The newsletter helps publicize
campus events, student organization meetings, tours of professional
schools, mock admissions tests, and presentations featuring speakers
and deans of admissions.
Evaluation Letter Collection
Our office provides a free service whereby letters of evaluation for
students and former students are collected for many programs. This
service provides students with the assurance that proper materials
are submitted to the schools of their choice.
Resources
Students in any major can be part of the pre-professional program
at Texas A&M University. Each year, hundreds of students from all
undergraduate disciplines enter professional schools after graduation.
Our office has multiple useful handouts for pre-professional students.

The Office of Professional
and Gradaute School Advising maintains many e-mail lists which send
important information regarding pre-professional information, meeting
dates for student organizations, and community events. Please see
