Eligibility for Participation in Honors Courses

Choosing the right challenge is just as important as choosing a university to attend. Why choose a program that constricts your studies, your opportunities, and your resources? College is about freedom, about expanding your horizons, and you need a place and a program that lets you develop a course of study as individual as you are. Open book

There is no formal application for the Honors Program. Unlike honors programs at other universities, Texas A&M's University Honors Program doesn't require you to lock into a four-year program separate from the regular curriculum. Instead, mix and match a combination of Honors and standard courses to meet your needs, interests, and path of study.

To be admitted to Honors coursework, a first semester freshman must have graduated in the top 10 percent of his or her high school class and have attained a combined score of at least 1250 on the Critical Reading and Math sections of the SAT I (with a score of at least 570 in each area) or 28 on the ACT (with at least 27 in both Math and English). National Merit Finalists, National Achievement Finalists, and National Hispanic Scholars automatically qualify to enroll in honors courses their first semester. Second semester freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors may enroll if they have achieved a cumulative Grade Point Ratio (GPR) at Texas A&M of 3.5 or higher (3.4 or higher if enrolled under catalgoue 126 or lower). Transfer students are considered for participation on a case-by-case basis. Students continue in the Honors Program on a semester by semester basis by maintaining a cumulative 3.5 GPR (3.4 GPR for students enrolled under catalogue 126 or lower).
