ASPIRE Participation Requirements
Starting Fall 2015, all ASPIRE participants will be registered for a 0 hour UGST 181 class that occurs either Tuesday or Wednesday. Each class topic will have a focus on either an Academic or Life Skill that will contribute to your growth and development as a college student. It is mandatory that ASPIRE freshmen be in attendance.
ASPIRE will host Small Community meetings every 3rd Tuesday of each month. Freshmen will have a learning community block on their academic schedule to prevent them from enrolling in other courses during this time. In the Spring semester, there will not be a UGST class, however ASPIRE will host a Large Community meeting in addition to the Small Community meetings. The Large Community meeting will be the 1st Tuesday of every month and the Small Community meetings will be held the 3rd Tuesday.
Students who do not consistently attend these meetings can be subjected to cancellation of their scholarship.
Partial or non-participation in the programmatic aspects of the ASPIRE Program will result in progressive consequences. Your mentor and executive chair will monitor your involvement in ASPIRE. Partial participation could result in termination of your scholarship. ASPIRE Coordinators will be in contact with students who miss ASPIRE events.
Terry Foundation Scholarship
The Terry Foundation was established in 1986 by Houstonians Howard and Nancy Terry out of a desire to help young people to help themselves. The Foundation’s goal is to strengthen the State of Texas by identifying Texas high school graduates who have promise of future leadership distinction and assisting them in developing their future and the future of those around them.
The Terry Scholarship is intended to provide scholarships up to the cost of attendance to outstanding freshman students (other scholarships, aid, and family household contribution will be considered when determining the Terry scholarship stipend).
You must maintain a 2.5 GPA overall each semester. You will be required to attend a fall orientation session your freshmen year, the Terry fall banquet each year and the Terry Spring picnic each year. You will receive information on these events and invitations from the Terry Foundation. You will receive a student handbook that will address in detail all the requirements.
