Department of English

Program Honors in English
The Department of English offers Program Honors in English. The Program provides individual instruction and advanced work for academically distinguished English majors. Program Honors in English must simultaneously meet requirements for University Honors. Students who complete the requirements for Program Honors are awarded a certificate in recognition of their achievement, and University Honors is recorded on their transcript.

In order to graduate with Program Honors in English, you must satisfy the following requirements:

1. Complete a total of 33 to 36 hours of Honors classes for University Honors.
2. Earn 21 hours of the credit in English courses or courses cross-listed with English
such as Women's Studies, Religious Studies, Modern Languages and Film.
3. Twelve of the English hours must be in upper-division level courses.
4. Six of the 12 honors hours being either
 
(a) an Honors Senior Seminar and an Honors Independent Study that culminates in
an Honors Thesis
  -OR-
(b) 6 hours of Honors Independent Study as a University Undergraduate Research
Fellow
. Three of the total hours must be at the upper division in an area other than English.
