Program Privileges
Undergraduate Research Fellows
What privileges, resources, and opportunities does a Fellow receive?
With the support of Research Fellows faculty advisors, the Honors Programs Office sets high expectations for Research Fellows. These expectations are reemphasized at every opportunity. Research Fellows are expected to perform as if they were graduate students, and they receive some opportunities available to graduate students. Among the recognitions and resources available to Research Fellows are the following:
- Honors recognition at graduation and on transcript
- Presentation of an Honors diploma and possible thesis awards at the Honors recognition ceremony
- Graduate library privileges (may check out books for one month instead of the 2-week period for undergraduates)
- Publication of thesis in Texas A&M University digital library (TxSpace)
- Library study carrel (with a letter from the Honors office)
- A mentor (the Research Fellows Advisor)
- Guidance from the Honors Office Staff, especially the Research Fellows Program Coordinator
- Thesis support and instruction from Research Fellows Program thesis coordinator and an undergraduate writing assistant
- $300 research budget
- Honors-managed research funding ($300) from the Glasscock Center (humanities topics)
- Supplemental funding opportunities
- Undergraduate research travel grants (the Professional School Advising unit within the Office of Honors Programs and Academic Scholarships)
- Sigma XI (international scientific honor society)
- Glasscock Center undergraduate humanities research awards
- College and departmental resources
- External agencies
- Honors incentive awards ($1000)
- Only honors students who will be enrolled as undergraduates at Texas A&M University during 2007-2008 academic year may apply for this award.
- In order to be considered for the Honors Incentive Award, the Research Fellow must submit a Continuing Student Scholarship Application to the Department of Student Financial Aid. (Application deadline: February 1, 2007.) Honors students who apply for an Honors Incentive Award can use the same application to apply simultaneously of the Department of Student Financial Aid's Academic Excellence Award, which ranges from $500 to $2,500 per year. Hence, a student who wins both awards would receive between $1,500 and $3,500.
